Background

The Flavivirus genus consists of positive, enveloped ssRNA viruses such as Yellow Fever, West Nile, Zika, and Dengue. These viruses are transmitted mainly through arthropods such as ticks and mosquitoes. The de Silva Lab focuses on understanding Dengue and Zika virology and immunology. Symptomatic viral infections can range from light rashes to fetal deformities, as shown in recent Zika cases.
